Hi! Thanks for your interest in my latest project!
This is actually not a photography project, it is a collaboration that I hope will result in a book of stories, facts, and illustrations from real women and experts, aimed at empowering teenager girls with knowledge about their bodies and sexuality.
It is NOT a how-to guide, or a self-help book. It is an intimate, vulnerable, authentic look into what it means to be a girl and a woman.
My vision is anatomy textbook meets feminist art; meets Humans of New York meets Chicken Soup for the soul.
A vital part of this book is the art, which will accompany many of the themes explored throughout. I want the teenage girls to be comforted by the stories, empowered by the facts, and inspired by the art. Showcasing a diverse collection of artwork, is another way that I hope to convey the message that everyone is different and beauty comes in many different shapes, sizes, and styles.
I am specifically seeking the following original artwork:
Portraits (to be based on a photo)
The anatomy of the vulva
The anatomy of the breast
Different types of breasts
The female reproductive system
But I will also need original art which explores the following themes:
Body positivity (ex: all bodies are good bodies, body hair is ok, etc)
The trans experience
Abuse, assault, rape
To submit a piece of original artwork for consideration in the book (based on one of the themes listed above), please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the artwork attached in low-resolution or a link to view it.
*Artists’ whose work is selected for publication in the book will be financially compensated.
I’m also looking for women who want to share their personal stories. More information here: www.davinapalik.com/share
If you have a teenage girl in your life who could help with my focus group, that link is here: www.davinapalik.com/teenager-questionnaire
And feel free to spread the links to any woman you think might be interested - I need all the help I can get!
